EVM <> CW Interoperability
After Sei v2 upgrade, Sei network will support two execution environments at once: both CosmWasm and the EVM, simultaneously. To enable such seamless interoperability, every Sei v2 user will have two different types of addresses:
- EVM Address
(0x...)is used for Ethereum-based activities.
- SEI Address
(Sei...)is used for Sei-native activities.
These two different addresses share the same underlying account. It means whatever action you take with one address will also affect the other. If you deposit funds into your EVM address, you can access and use same funds with your Sei address, and vice versa.
What is “Wallet Association”?
However, there is one catch. It's called “Wallet Association”. In order to control the same tokens in both wallets, you must “associate” (=link) your EVM address with your Sei address, by making one transaction.
After the successful association, both EVM and Sei addresses will show the exact same balance.
While for degens, one transaction might seem like nothing, it could be a huge hurdle for any newly immigrated users without $sei to pay the gas fee. To solve this dilemma, Seif Wallet team designed A FULLY SUBSIDIZED wallet association as a part of wallet creation process.
